An Ohio man who threatened to kill Katie Hobbs in 2022 during her successful bid for governor of Arizona was sentenced on Monday to two and a half years in prison, prosecutors announced. The man, Joshua Russell, 46, of Ohio, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Arizona in August to one count of making an interstate threat, according to the Justice Department. He was indicted in December 2022 on charges that he had left several voice messages containing death threats with the office of Ms. Hobbs, who was then Arizona’s secretary of state. Ms. Hobbs, a Democrat, was the state’s top election official when Joe Biden’s 2020 victory there was certified. In the letter, Mr. Russell apologized to Ms. Hobbs and said that he was being treated for anger and drug and alcohol abuse, which he cited as a factor in making the threats.

Marie Irvine was 99 years old when a chapter in her long-ago career became a TikTok sensation. During a crucial period late in Marilyn Monroe’s life, Ms. Irvine had been her makeup artist in New York City. When a TikTok star learned her story, it blew up the internet. In 1958, Life magazine commissioned Richard Avedon to reimagine Ms. Monroe as the screen and stage sirens Clara Bow, Marlene Dietrich, Theda Bara, Jean Harlow and Lillian Russell. It was Ms. Irvine who assisted with her makeup — turning her into Ms. Russell’s candy-box pinup, and Ms. Dietrich’s steamy Lola Lola from the film “The Blue Angel.”It ran in the Dec. 22 issue of the magazine, with a piece written by Ms. Monroe’s husband at the time, the playwright Arthur Miller, with the headline, “My Wife Marilyn.” He described the photos “as a kind of history of our mass fantasy, so far as seductresses are concerned.”And when Ms. Monroe, having been sewn into her skintight sequined gown, sang a breathless “Happy Birthday” to President John F. A municipal judge on Wednesday found Carlee Russell, 26, guilty of misdemeanor charges of false reporting to law enforcement and falsely reporting an incident. Flanked by her family and attorneys, Russell made her first court appearance Wednesday amid a heavy media presence, news outlets reported. Defense attorney Richard Jaffe said in a telephone interview they do not think jail time is appropriate. Russell’s attorneys said they don't think she should serve jail time for a misdemeanor offense. "We don’t think jail time for a first-offender with a class A misdemeanor is reasonable because that just doesn’t happen,” Jaffe said.

The statement from attorney Emory Anthony – read by Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis during a news conference Monday afternoon – said the 26-year-old woman never left the Hoover area and acted alone. The statement didn’t indicate where Russell was while a large search for her took place. She returned home on foot about 49 hours later, at around 10:45 p.m., according to Hoover police. Derzis said charges against Russell are possible and his office is discussing the case with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. New York CNN Business —The back-to-back huge market rallies last week may seem like a distant memory to investors now that stocks have slid for the past four days. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both hit new 52-week lows on Tuesday before turning higher, and the Dow is not far from a 52-week low either. That included three instances from late 2008 when market volatility was at a peak during the Global Financial Crisis. The S&P 500 was up nearly 15% one year following massive back-to-back rallies, compared to normal historical gains of just 9%.
